About Marlene

Marlene Rosenberg toured with Joe Henderson, Nancy Wilson, Joe Williams, Frank Morgan, Ed Thigpen, Albert "Tootie" Heath, Benny Green, Roy Hargrove and Wallace Roney. She has also performed with Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron, Stan Getz, Terry Lynne Carrington, Kevin Mahogany, David “Fathead”Newman, Marian McPartland, Monty Alexander, Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Teddy Edwards, Ira Sullivan, Ernestine Anderson, Nick Brignola, and Larry Coryell, Cyrus Chestnut and Bobby Watson, Ron Blake, Victor Gould, Lewis Nash, Eric Alexander, Harold Maybern, Jazzmeia Horn, Tamir Hendleman to name a few.

She plays regularly with her own ensemble MRQ. She has 3 CDs out: “Waimea”; “Pieces Of...” Featuring Cedar Walton and Javon Jackson; “Bassprint: with Geof Bradfield, Scott Hesse and Makaya McCraven. Currently, she has a soon to be released 4th CD with NEA Master, pianist Kenny Barron, including Lewis Nash on drums and Christian McBride playing and co-producing.

Currently, She is on the faculty at Northern Illinois as Coordinator of the Jazz combo program, coaches the combo workshop class, and teaches Bass Studio. Rosenberg is also on the faculty of Roosevelt University as an Applied Artist, teaching bass lessons and combo. Ms. Rosenberg holds a Masters of Music in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Bass and Composition from The University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
